🛢️ Oil Prices Tank on Israel-Iran Ceasefire
Oil futures slumped over 4% on Tuesday as President Trump urgently worked to maintain a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Through a series of blistering social media posts, the president directly ordered Israel to halt planned strikes. The market had already settled 7% lower on Monday following Iran's missile attacks on a US air base in Qatar. JPMorgan analysts noted that despite recent volatility, their base case remains that global oil supply is sufficient to meet demand.
💊 Novo Nordisk Terminates Deal With Hims
Novo Nordisk abruptly cut ties with telehealth provider Hims & Hers just one month after announcing their partnership to sell the popular weight-loss drug Wegovy.
The Swedish drugmaker accused Hims & Hers of "failing to adhere to the law" and using "deceptive marketing that puts patient safety at risk." Hims CEO Andrew Dudum claimed Novo Nordisk attempted to "strong-arm" his company. Hims & Hers stock plunged nearly 35% following the announcement, while Novo Nordisk shares fell a more modest 5%.
⚛️ New York Announces New Nuclear Plans
New York State plans to build an advanced nuclear power plant capable of producing at least 1 gigawatt of electricity, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Monday.
The project would be one of the first new U.S. reactors in a generation, coming amid surging electricity demand from data centers and increasing electrification of transportation and manufacturing. The announcement follows President Trump's May executive orders to fast-track new nuclear licenses nationwide.
🚢 Carnival Shares Ride Record Waves
Carnival shares jumped over 8% Tuesday after the world's largest cruise operator posted record second-quarter results and raised its full-year guidance.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.35, significantly beating both its guidance and Wall Street's estimate of $0.25. CEO Josh Weinstein credited the brand’s value compared to land-based vacations. The company's booking curve is now "the furthest out on record," suggesting sustained demand through the remainder of 2025.
