💰 Coinbase Jumps 24% at S&P 500 Inclusion

Coinbase will join the S&P 500 on May 19, becoming the first pure-play crypto company in the index. Shares surged 24% on the news.

The exchange has posted four consecutive profitable quarters, meeting a key requirement for index inclusion. But after a week of bullish headlines and big gains, don't be surprised if things cool off in the near term.

🤖 AMD pops on $10B Saudi deal & $6B buyback

I took some macros of my computer while it was running. The photos turned out really cool. This one is of the AMD logo on the CPU fan.

AMD shares increased 5% after the company made two major announcements:

  1. A $10B chip deal with Saudi Arabian AI venture HUMAIN

  2. $6B share buyback (in addition to $4B in existing buybacks)

The rally may be priced in, but investors should watch for more Middle Eastern capital flowing into AI. Chip-adjacent names could benefit.

And today, we have an AltIndex AI stock pick in the semiconductor industry: Nova Ltd., a metrology solutions provider for semiconductor manufacturing.

Today’s AltIndex AI Stock Pick:

Nova Ltd. (NVMI) – a semiconductor metrology company

🥩 US Beef Prices Soar as Herds Hit 70-Year Low

Ground beef prices have jumped 12.8% in the past year to a record $5.79 per pound, while premium cuts now command nearly $11 per pound at groceries nationwide.

This price surge stems from US cattle inventory plummeting to its lowest level in over 70 years. Rebuilding depleted herds requires patience, with calves taking up to 42 months to reach slaughter weight.

💸 Inflation Is Lower than Expected; Markets Optimistic

The new CPI report revealed that inflation was slightly lower than expected at 2.3% (instead of 2.4%).

The surprise was small, but it still gave markets enough confidence to erase the S&P 500’s losses from this year—bringing it to 5,900, which is 18% higher than April lows. It remains to be seen if the next CPI report will follow suit though, and all eyes will be on the Fed’s decision this June to cut or maintain interest rates.

Stock ideas

Here are three of my favorites from this past week.

Analysis provided by public.com.

Remember to always DYOR.

Snowflake Inc. (SNOW)

Bullish Case

  • AI-Powered Product Innovation: Snowflake has significantly accelerated product innovation under new CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy.

  • Strengthened Sales Execution: The company realigned its go-to-market strategy with technical overlay teams and revised compensation plans.

  • Platform Differentiation: The combination of ease of use, strong governance, and data-sharing capabilities positions Snowflake as a critical layer in data intelligence.

Bearish Case

  • Intensifying Competition: Despite recent innovations, Snowflake must continually prove its value proposition against major cloud providers.

  • Market Sentiment Vulnerability: The stock remains susceptible to broader market retreats, as evidenced by its recent pullback from mid-February highs.

Consensus Cloud Solutions (CCSI)

Bullish Case

  • Exceptional 17% FCF Yield: CCSI generates $70-90 million in annual free cash flow on a $440 million market cap, offering returns largely insulated from market volatility.

  • Healthcare-Focused Growth Engine: The Corporate segment (62% of revenue) has grown at 6.5% with 101% customer retention.

  • Strategic Debt Reduction: Management has cut leverage from 5.3x to 3.1x EBITDA by retiring $199 million in principal debt.

Bearish Case

  • SoHo Segment Erosion: The Small Office/Home Office business (38% of revenue) continues to shrink at an estimated 9.5% in 2025.

  • Financial Restatement History: A correction that overstated revenues by $5.3 million and net income by $1.9 million in 2022 triggered governance concerns.

Maravai LifeSciences Holdings (MRVI)

Bullish Case

  • Wall Street Price Target Upside: Ten analysts covering MRVI in the past three months set an average target of $5.56 (high of $10.00) versus the current $2.01.

  • Industry Performance Stability: Despite challenging conditions, MRVI has maintained performance in line with its sector over the past calendar year.

  • Analyst Forecast Range: The wide variance in price targets ($2.50 to $10.00) indicates significant upside potential if the company executes well.

Bearish Case

  • Persistent Quarterly Losses: Next quarter's consensus earnings forecast of -$0.07 per share (range: -$0.12 to -$0.03) signals ongoing profitability challenges.

  • Anemic Revenue Trajectory: With projected quarterly sales of just $48.05 million, MRVI faces significant growth hurdles that limit its ability to achieve scale.
